The Swampscott boys lacrosse team was able to hold off a late charge from Saugus, as Swampscott defeated Saugus 8-7 in the final minute at Swampscott Monday.Click here for a photo gallery.Swampscott had a 6-4 lead in the fourth quarter. Saugus fought back and tied the game 7-7 late in the fourth quarter. Swampscott’s Pat Kennedy scored the game winner with about one minute left in the game. Saugus coach Todd Pierce was happy with his team’s performance.”My team seems to get better game after game. My team will soon be on the right end of one of these close games,” Pierce said.Swampscott (8-3) goal-scorers were: Brian Santry (2 goals); Billy Vallee (2 goals); Alex Balazza (1 goal) and Kevin Marescalchi (1 goal). For Saugus, Sean Gilman led the way (4 goals). Cody Martin had a strong game in net for Saugus (15 saves), but had to leave the game early in the fourth quarter with an injury. Ishmael Minaya had a strong defensive game for Saugus. Saugus is now 2-9.Danvers 8, Salem 7At Salem, the score was tied 5-5 going into the fourth quarter. Danvers opened the quarter with three unanswered goals, which made the score 8-5 Danvers. Salem answered back with two goals of its own, but could never fully recover from the Falcon surge. Leading the way for Salem was Dan Gauthier (2 goals). Matt Wilson, Matt Muse and Kyle Gauthier all scored one goal each for Salem. Salem (5-6) plays Beverly Thursday.Marblehead 14, Gloucester 4At Gloucester, the Magicians spread the wealth with six different players scoring. Marblehead goal-scorers were: Ian Maag (4 goals, 1 assist); Jacob Maselek (3 goals, 1 assist); Trevor Jones (3 goals); Dean Fader (2 goals); Brooks Tyrrell (1 goal, 2 assists) and Trevor Gelineau (1 goal).
