LYNN – Police arrested two Lynn men late Monday night after they allegedly attempted to rob a man at gunpoint while he was driving, prompting him to drive his vehicle into a Broad Street home, according to Lynn Police Lt. Chris Kelly.Judge James LaMothe ordered Luis Colon, 20, of 504 Summer St. #3, held on $10,000 bail and Fabian Steven Llano, 21, of 56 Lawton Ave. #3, held on $5,000 bail during a hearing in Lynn District Court Tuesday.Police responded to Broad Street around 10:50 p.m. to reports of a silver Dodge van driving into a house, and found a 21-year-old Lynn man, who told them he had been robbed by two men, one named “Luis,” later positively identified as Colon, and the other named “Chris,” who police believe to be Llano, according to police reports filed in Lynn District Court.Colon allegedly threatened the victim with a crow bar as he sat in his vehicle on Green Street because the victim refused to sell him marijuana, according to a police report. At the same time, Llano allegedly entered the passenger side of the van and brandished a hand gun, telling the victim, “Give him everything,” according to the report. The 21-year-old Lynn man told police he was worried for his own safety as well as that of his girlfriend and child, who were in a nearby apartment, so he pushed down the gas pedal and ran the van into the left front corner of 22 Broad St., according to the report.Colon and Llano fled the scene, Kelly said, but police located them nearby and placed them under arrest, charging each with armed robbery and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. Llano is also charged with driving without a license. Colon had injuries consistent with being in a car accident, Kelly said.Assistant District Attorney Mark Baron asked LaMothe to revoke Colon’s bail from an earlier incident and requested he be held on $15,000 bail. He asked that Llano be held on $10,000 bail.”It took the (alleged) victim putting his own safety at risk – driving into a house – to protect the safety of his girlfriend, his child and himself,” Baron said.Llano’s attorney, Barbara Keon of Salem, argued the victim never positively identified Llano as being involved in the robbery, saying that person had only been referred to as “Chris.”Llano told police he saw Colon running toward him and yelling for help while driving home from his job at a restaurant in Logan Airport, and denied any involvement with the robbery, according to the report. Keon said Llano’s time stamp would prove he could not have been present when the robbery allegedly occurred.Boston attorney Christopher Norris, who represented Colon, argued that bail should remain low based on the fact that the account of the incident rested entirely on a victim who has a criminal record of his own and admitted to police he used to deal drugs but has since stopped.”There’s no way to credit one account over the other,” he said. “It’s too early to know what really happened.”LaMothe said due to the severity of the charges against both men, he would deny both defense attorneys’ requests to set bail at $500.Several members of Llano’s family left the courtroom in tears and decrying his innocence. The family declined to speak to the Daily Item. The men are due back in court May 29 for a probable cause hearing.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
