The St. Mary’s softball team had the bats going Wednesday in a 20-5 win over Austin Prep at Reading.The Spartans won the first meeting between the two teams, 8-3, but round 2 was considerably more lopsided. Kaleigh Finigan went 4-for-5 with two RBI; also helping out were Genevieve Benoit (3-for-4, RBI) and Victoria Viger (2-for-4). Brooke L’Abbe, Cassandra LaFauci and Mia Nowicki combined for the win. The Spartans are 9-1.Danvers 5, Peabody 2At Danvers, the Tanners, who just came off an impressive 4-0 victory over Winthrop, dug themselves an early hole and could never fully recover. Peabody pitcher Shelbi Wilson had a strong performance (7 innings, 6 hits, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts, 5 runs, 2 earned runs). Olivia Brothers led the Peabody offense (3-3, 1 RBI). Katie French chipped in as well (1 hit). Peabody is now 5-6.Marblehead 5, Revere 1At Marblehead, Revere took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. Marblehead would then go on to score five unanswered runs to close out the game. Marblehead pitcher Michaela LeBlanc had a strong day (7 innings, 6 hits, 4 strikeouts, 2 walks, 1 run). Leading the Marblehead offense were senior Maggie Hermann (solo home run), freshman Emily Messinger (2 hits) and senior Kathryn Digiammarino (2 hits, 1 RBI). Marblehead is now 5-3.Arlington Catholic 12, Fenwick 7At Arlington Catholic, Fenwick surrendered six runs in the first inning to go down 6-0. Fenwick fought back to make the game 7-5 in the fifth inning, but in the bottom of the fifth Arlington Catholic scored five runs to pump the score back up to 12-5. Leading the Fenwick attack were Cheyenne Griffin (2-3, 2 RBI, 1 run scored), Katherine Melanson (2-4, 2 RBI, 1 run scored) and Jen Crovo (2 hits). Fenwick is now 3-7.Winthrop 6, Salem 2At Winthrop, Alex Ferri struck out 11 and allowed only four hits and one walk for the Vikings (5-6). Winthrop took a 2-0 lead in the second, but Salem scored twice in the third to tie things up. The Vikings pulled away with four runs in the third. Rachel Delsolio (2-for-4, double), Michelle Lasala (hit, 2 runs scored) and Christine Haskell (RBI, walk, reached on an error) led the way offensively.
