Tech boy’s lacrosse comeback falls just short to North Shore

The Tech boy’s lacrosse team made a furious second half comeback against North Shore, but fell just short, 8-7, at Manning Field Thursday night.Tech found itself down 6-0 after the first quarter and 6-1 at the half. The Tech defense locked down and only gave up two goals in the second half. Tech was down 8-4 after three quarters. Tech made the score 8-7 with one minute left in the game, and got one shot off with eight second left that just sailed high of the net. Tech coach Jay Richards was very happy with his team’s performance.”I am so proud of my team today. My team came out as flat as a pancake and still never gave up. They were able to rally and almost come out with a victory,” Richards said.Leading the way for the Tech attack was Kyle Gagon and Jason Grant (3 goals each). Joey Caisse chipped in with one goal. Captain Dan Gorman had a strong day on the defensive side and goalie Robert Miele was strong in net (19 saves). Tech is now 5-4.Marblehead 7, Swampscott 3At Marblehead, the Magicians (9-2) had a comfortable 4-0 lead at half. Leading the way for Marblehead was Ian Maag (3 goals, 1 assist). The rest of the Marblehead goal scorers were: Trevor Jones, (1 goal); Jacob Maselek, (1 goal, 1 assist); Brooks Tyrrell, (1 goal, 1 assist) and Matt Millett, (1 goal).Matt Gambale had two goals for Swampscott and Griffin Hunt, one. Max Cohen (98 saves) was in net.”Against a sound, skilled team like that, you can’t afford to make mistakes,” Swampscott coach Josh Field said. “That’s something we have to work on.”Peabody 14, Saugus 6At Peabody, the Tanners were up 7-2 at the half and were on cruise control from that point on. Leading the way for Peabody was D.J Henrick (4 goals, all in first half). Kiefer Heckman was more then just a sidekick (3 goals, 3 assists). Nick Oulette (2 goals, 2 assists) and Eric Hennessy (2 goals) both chipped in for Peabody (7-3). Freshman Bobby Caproni scored his first ever varsity goal. For Saugus, C.J. Randolph and Nick Taylor both had two goals each.GIRLS LACROSSESwampscott 17,North Reading 10At North Reading, Swampscott was up 8-5 at the half and never looked back. Leading the way for the Big Blue was Kita Wheeler (5 goals). The rest of the Swampscott goal scorers were: Katie Zarinsky, (4 goals); Jesse DePaolo, (3 goals, 1 assist); Alexa Goldman, (2 goals); Taylor Eaton, (2 goals) and Gillian Trask, (1 goal, 1 assist). Swampscott (5-6) plays Marblehead Friday in coaches versus cancer fundraiser at Salem State.Marblehead 7, Woburn 6At Woburn, the Tanners had a strong lefty goalie who kept the Magicians (7-3, 2-1 NEC) off balance in the first half, but Marblehead worked out the kinks in time for a strong second half. Allie Foreman had two big saves late in the second half to preserve the win.Meggie Collins (2 goals, 2 caused turnover), Eliza Quigley (2 goals, caused turnover) and Cassie Rodgers (3 goals, 3 draw controls) led the Marblehead effort.BOYS TENNISSwampscott 4, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, Swampscott had wins from Matt Jacobs, first singles (6-0, 6-1); Val Temin, second singles (6-2, 6-1); Sam Crimmins and Mike Pindrus, first doubles (6-3, 6-2); Ian Crimmins and Sam Caramasino, second doubles (6-0, 6-3). Swampscott is now 3-3.St. John’s 5,Catholic Memorial 0At St. John’s, St. John’s only lost one set total in all of its matches combined. Winners for St. John’s were: Cameron Trosin, first singles (6-0, 6-0); Chris Toner, second singles (6-1, 6-0); Nico Limacher, third singles (6-0, 6-0); Mark Corvi and Ian Wright, first doubles (6-0, 6-0); Tim Cunningham and Jonathan Shaffer, second doubles (6-0, 6-0). St. John’s is now 8-1.GIRLS TENNISSwampscott 3,Lynnfield 2At Swampscott, the Big Blue swept at singles, which proved to be the difference.
