LYNNFIELD – The newly appointed head teacher of Lynnfield Preschool presented a pre-school improvement plan to the School Committee Tuesday night, touching on classes and staffing, school services and relationships with family and community.Jennifer Hogan-Caley, who has been at the pre-school for the past 14 years, said the preschool will implement age grouping next school year in its integrated program, where students of typical and special needs learn together. The grouping will be split into three segments: the oldest students going on to kindergarten, mid-age-range students and the youngest students at 2.9 years old.Hogan-Caley said she is also looking to create a social-emotional curriculum that focuses on social skills and empathy for the preschoolers because she is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. The improvement plan included outreach to parents, offering training at the school in how to develop pre-schooler skills, such as good behavior, toilet training and self-help. In addition, Hogan-Caley said the pre-school staff would like to be in touch with private pre-schools that feed into Lynnfield Preschool to assess any motor or language difficulties in children prior to their referral to Lynnfield Preschool. The School Committee will meet again on May 22 at Lynnfield High School.Sarah Mupo can be reached at [email protected].
