May 10, 2012 by Matt Tempesta

SAUGUS – Town Manager Scott Crabtree said former Town Manager Andrew Bisignani has been paid the vacation time owed to him after he filed a lawsuit against the town in February.?We paid it out of the salary item for the Town Manager,” said Crabtree.Read a letter from Bisignani’s lawyer explaining the lawsuit.According to the suit, Bisignani had 124 unused sick days and 54 unused vacation days when he retired, but agreed to be paid for 100 sick days and 40 vacation days totaling more than $60,000.The 40 vacation days amounts to $18,666, according to the suit.Crabtree said Bisignani is still owed sick time, which he said will be paid according to the town policy.?It?s to be paid in two fiscal years,” said Crabtree.Despite this, Crabtree said the town?s attorney told him Bisignani is still following through with the lawsuit. In a phone interview Wednesday night, Bisignani said he just found out about the payment Tuesday, and noted he only sought legal action because of a “lack of communication from the town.”?It was never my idea,” said Bisignani. “It was never something I wanted to do. I find it very uncomfortable. I was forced to engage an attorney and he was unsuccessful in getting a response from the town so the only action left was to file an action in the courts.”Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
