CHELSEA – A Swampscott man and recently retired Essex County Sheriff?s Department corrections officer is facing a litany of charges following an incident in a bar when he allegedly bit part of another man?s nose off, according to court documents. Two men and former business partners, Kenneth Michaud, 40, of 81 Kensington Lane, Swampscott, and his former business partner, went outside of Renzo?s Restaurant and Bar in Revere on Revere Beach Boulevard, when the business partner said Michaud attacked him, according to court documents.?(The victim) stated that he was struck in the back of the head and about the head area repeatedly,” Det. Lynn Romboli stated in the report. ” ? At some point, Michaud started to bite (the victim?s) head area and eventually latched on to his nose, biting (part) of it off, (the victim) was bleeding profusely and was able to make it back to Renzo?s, where he collapsed on the floor and asked for help.”Romboli states Michaud?s business partner had “visible serious injuries,” during a visit to his house.?His nose was bandaged, he had what appeared to be a claw mark on his face/neck area, with cuts to his forehead, an injured eye, and numerous cuts and bite marks on his ear,” Romboli states in the report.Revere firefighters responded to the scene on May 2 and the victim was eventually transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, and then transferred to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for additional treatment, according to the report.”?(The victim) explained that he will need plastic surgery because part of his nose was missing,” Romboli said in the report. But Michaud?s attorney, Gary Zerola of Boston, said Monday afternoon during an interview in The Daily Item?s conference room, that Michaud and his former business partner had dinner to talk about dissolving their business relationship. He said Michaud?s former business partner attacked Michaud outside the restaurant when the 20-year veteran of the Essex County Sheriff?s Department told him he planned to file a lawsuit against him because the man refused to pay his share of a lease for the business, Boston Auto Trade, which they operated together.?He had Kenny on the ground and he was trying to gouge his eyes out,” Zerola said of the incident. “Anything Kenny did that night was appropriate. He was defending himself.”Michaud suffered a concussion during the incident, Zerola said.Zerola denies that Michaud bit his former business partner and said he will be asking the District Attorney?s office to file charges against the business partner, because he initiated the fight.?And if he doesn?t do it, we?ll do it ourselves,” Zerola said. The Boston attorney said Michaud never claimed he was a member of the Hell?s Angels, as the former business partner claimed.?He made that up because he knew it would make Kenny sound mean,” Zerola said.Michaud is charged with mayhem, assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery. He pleaded innocent to the charges during a hearing in Chelsea District Court Monday and was released on personal recognizance bail, according to court records.Michaud was also ordered to stay away from his former business partner.Zerola said Michaud is married and is a “doting father” to his children.?He is a respectable member of the community with more than 20 years in the Sheriff?s Department,” Zerola said.Essex County Deputy Maurice Pratt, spokesperson for Essex County Sheriff Frank Cousins, confirmed this morning that Michaud worked for the department for more than 20 years, until he retired in November 2011.A Chelsea District Court clerk confirmed Monday that arrest warrants had been issued for Michaud?s arrest, but the Swampscott resident turned himself in there Monday morning, Zerola said.Revere Police Capt.
