It took quite the team effort from the Marblehead baseball team (11-9) to pick up a 1-0 home victory over Swampscott on Wednesday. With great pitching on both sides limiting both offenses, it’s fitting that a tremendous defensive play allowed the Magicians to hold on for the victory.Centerfielder Will Quigley tracked down a potential gap-shot to left-center on a dead sprint for the final out of the ballgame.”It was a game-saver,” said coach Jason Tarasuik of Quigley’s highlight-reel play. “The ball was still rising and if that gets by we could very well have a different outcome.”Marblehead grabbed the lead early on in the second inning on an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Jeremy Meyer that scored Brian Daly, who led off with a double. Kyle Forsgard singled Daly to third, setting the stage for the game’s only run.Marblehead starting pitcher Max Hall was forced to leave the game with an injury, leaving Evan Haferman (2 2/3 innings, two hits, three strikeouts) and Daly to finish up on the mound. The latter earned the save with three scoreless innings of relief.”It was a solid win for us as we prepare for the tournament,” said Tarasuik. “These were two tournament caliber teams today that both played some great baseball.”Northeast 15, Tech 0At Fraser Field, Saugus’ Jason Harper (9-1) tossed his second no-hitter of the season as the visiting Golden Knights (15-4) routed the Tigers.
