The Marblehead girls tennis team spoiled Manchester-Essex’ attempt at a perfect season, as Marblehead defeated Manchester 3-2 at Marblehead Thursday afternoon.It all came down to first singles, where Marblehead’s Annie Ryan clinched the match with a tough three-set win (6-1, 4-6, 6-4). The rest of the winners for Marblehead were: Megan Stanojev and Lindsey Cohen, first doubles (6-2, 6-3); Meghan Gabel and Kelly Mealey, second doubles (6-0, 6-1). Both teams are 17-1.Swampscott 5, Gloucester 0At Gloucester, the trip north was worth it for the Big Blue, who only needed one more point to win a match that had been suspended due to rain earlier in the season. Rita Tsokanis had already won her match at first singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Tatum Pederson had won 6-1, 6-0, before the rains came. The two teams finished the other three matches Thursday with Jessica Zolott winning 6-3, 6-0, at third singles; Ashley Petras-Veronica Pyatigorskaya at first doubles, 6-3, 6-1, and Allegra Walker-Victoria Bauder at second doubles, 6-0, 7-6 (7-2). Marblehead is now 10-6.GIRLS LACROSSESwampscott 16, Melrose 8At Swampscott, the Big Blue were deadlocked 6-6 at the half. Swampscott dominated the second half and outscored Melrose 10-2. Jesse DePaolo led the way for Swampscott (6 goals). Gillian Trask also helped out (4 goals). Mackenzie Robertson scored her first-ever varsity goal. Other goal-scorers for Swampscott were: Katie Zarinsky (2 goals, 2 assists); Chloe Dorgan (1 goal, 2 assists); Kita Wheeler (1 goal) and Taylor Eaton (1 goal). Swampscott finished the season at 8-12.
