SAUGUS – A Saugus man was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail by a Lynn District Court judge Monday after police charged him with his third offense of driving under the influence of drugs after he struck a parked car Saturday.?There were four EMTs that cleared me of any influence and I have one officer that insists that I was under the influence of something,” Shane Scott, of 12 Riverside Court, told Judge James Wexler, who also presided over the arraignment of Scott?s second OUI offense in Chelsea.?I do remember you, and I remember that I set bail? under the condition that you not operate a motor vehicle under any influence,” Wexler said. “All the medications you describe being on do affect the ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.”Scott allegedly struck a parked car on Stocker Street on Saturday around 4:20 p.m., according to a Saugus Police report read by Assistant District Attorney Geoffrey Wood read at the hearing. Officers determined him to be under the influence after observing him “staggering side to side,” and that his speech was “sleepy and lethargic,” Wood said. Police found numerous prescription medications in Scott?s possession, Wood said.Wood asked that bail be set at $2,500 for the most recent charge and that the judge revoke Scott?s bail in the earlier case. Wexler did not revoke Scott?s bail, but set a higher bail of $5,000 and ordered Scott once again not to drive while on any medication.Defense attorney Alicia Andrews asked that Scott be given $1,000 cash bail, noting he did stop at the scene of the crash and denied being on any medication at the time of the accident.Scott is due back in Lynn District Court for a probable cause hearing June 26, and must appear in Chelsea District Court June 29 on the earlier OUI charge, Andrews said.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
