MARBLEHEAD – Elementary school officials are selling commemorative ornaments and miniature sculptures from Marblehead-based Hestia Creations to raise money for a General John Glover mural for the new Glover School, which is set to open in January 2014.The commemorative pieces are a collectible stand-up Villagescape miniature and a hand-painted hanging Ameriscape ornament measuring 3.5 inches in diameter, both of the old Glover School, which was built in 1916 and will be torn down this summer to build the new facility that will house the kindergarten through third grade students, according to Glover School PTO co-president Julie Duggan. The cost of the commemorative sculptures is $22 each, with a special price of $35 for both pieces, and can be ordered online at www.hestiacreations.com/gloverschoolfundraiser-299.html.The new Glover School will receive all the proceeds from the sales of the collectibles through the Marblehead Festival of the Arts, which runs from June 30-July 4, to help raise the $7,000-$8,000 needed to pay for the mural, according to Glover School Principal Mary Devlin.”Hestia has been very kind,” said Devlin.Local artist April Frost will create the life-size mural, which will be located in the New Glover School lobby when the school opens.”In its time it was a grand old school,” said Devlin about the current Glover School.Devlin says the commemorative pieces are selling well.”It’s going great, it really is,” she said. “People have really wanted a memento of Glover School because many of the people here have gone to Glover, their children have gone to Glover, and even their parents have gone to Glover School.”
