LYNN – Lynn Police arrested a Woburn man Tuesday afternoon following a foot chase through several yards after a Boston Street resident saw someone break into her neighbor?s home and then flee with a bag of stolen items, according to an arrest report.Lynn Police responded just after noon Tuesday to 727 Boston St. for a report of an ongoing break-in called in by a neighbor, according to the report. The neighbor told officers she heard glass breaking and looked out her window to see a man crawling into a house through a broken basement window.Upon their arrival, several officers saw the suspect fleeing from the residence carrying a “yellow pillow case type bag,” and pursued him through several yards on Boston and Fenton Streets and behind Southside Avenue, the report said. One officer observed several residents exiting their homes and pointing to a yard into which they had seen the suspect run, the report said.Once officers caught up with the suspect, later identified as Edgard Molina DeJesus, 38, of 5373 Prospect St. in Woburn, he allegedly “charged” one of the officers, prompting police to draw batons and pepper spray. They eventually subdued DeJesus with the spray and took him into custody, the report said.Police recovered two Toshiba computers, numerous pieces of jewelry and rolled coins from the yellow pillow case, according to the report. DeJesus is charged with felony breaking and entering in the daytime, possessing a burglarious instrument, trespassing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct.DeJesus also allegedly ran across the top of a vehicle during the pursuit, damaging its back fin. Police additionally charged him with malicious destruction of property over $250.At his arraignment in District Court Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Smith requested $7,500 bail for DeJesus, citing past incarceration and a criminal record of similar offenses dating back 20 years.Salem defense attorney Thomas Murphy argued for lower bail, saying $7,500 would be “tantamount to holding him without bail.”?There?s no denying his record is lengthy. He has had a drug problem for quite some time and is struggling with it,” Murphy said.Judge Ellen Flatley set the bail at $5,000 cash and ordered him detained for violating probation. He is scheduled to appear in court July 18 for a pre-trial hearing.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
