LYNN – A Lynn man charged with abusing a 7-month-old baby and her mother numerous times remains held in Middleton Jail pending a dangerousness hearing, according to documents filed in Lynn District Court Monday.Police arrested Jose Castillo, 20, of 137 Broad St., Saturday after the mother of the infant reported he had “been abusive toward her and their child recently,” according to a police report. She recalled an incident earlier this month in which he had “thrown her onto the wooden floor,” but was unable to provide an exact date, the report said. The woman told police she went to take out the trash Thursday afternoon, leaving Castillo with the infant, who was sitting on a couch, according to a police report. When she returned minutes later, the child was on the floor crying, and had a bump on her forehead, and Castillo was sending a text message, according to the report. The woman said when she took the phone away from Castillo, he slapped her in the face and then left the residence, according to the report.?She stated that (Castillo) ?didn?t do anything??he sat by while their daughter was crying and possibly hurt,” Officer Timothy Nerich wrote in the report. The woman told police Castillo “hits? the child “every time she cries,” but said she had not seen any visible signs of bruising on the baby. When officers asked her why she still felt threatened even after leaving Castillo?s residence to stay with her grandmother, the woman stated she was afraid Castillo would “take the baby to his homeland of Honduras,” according to the report.Lynn District Court Judge Albert Conlon ordered Castillo held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Thursday. He also granted a restraining order filed by the woman, and told Castillo he is to have no contact with her or the infant, even while in custody.Police charged Castillo with assault and battery on a child and domestic assault and battery, and filed a report with the Department of Children and Families in connection with the allegations, according to the report.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
