SAUGUS – Saugus Police arrested a Winthrop woman Saturday who allegedly caused a car accident while driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and then kicked arresting officers in the shins and tried to kick out the window of a police cruiser, according to an arrest report.Officers arrived at the Main Street overpass near Route 1 around 4 p.m. Saturday and found Dina D. Beshere, 43, of 110 Circuit Road, slumped against the driver?s side window, and observed an open nip of vodka on the floor and a bottle of prescription drugs on the passenger seat, according to the report.A man driving down Main Street with two elderly passengers in his car told police that Beshere attempted to turn left on the southwest ramp from Route 1 and had turned into his path, Officer Frank Morello wrote in his report. He noted the ramp is “clearly not designed for motorists to turn left.”One of the passengers in the second vehicle had a cut on her chin, but refused medical attention, the report said. An ambulance arrived on scene to evaluate Beshere, but determined she was not injured in the crash.Beshere refused to show her license to police and was argumentative, even attempting to hit Morello as he questioned her about the accident, the report said. During her arrest, Beshere kicked two officers in the shins and began kicking at the divider window inside the police cruiser “with full force,” according to the report.During booking, Beshere admitted to taking the pills and said she “only drank three nips of vodka” a short while before getting behind the wheel, the report said. Officers found other unopened nips of vodka in her blouse. She refused a Breathalyzer test.Police charged Beshere with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and drugs, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, negligent operation and an open container violation. Judge Albert Conlon ordered Beshere released on personal recognizance during a hearing in District Court Monday, according to court records. She is due back in court Aug. 2 for a pre-trial hearing.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
