July 10, 2012 by [email protected]

NAHANT – A new owner of the Jesmond Nursing Home said she and her business partners plan to keep “business as usual” for the nursing and rehabilitative care facility.”We want to keep business as usual and provide the high quality of care that (The Jesmond) is known for,” said Humaira Tariq, 40, of Wellesley Healthcare Properties, LLC, which purchased the property at 217 Nahant Road two weeks ago.In fact, The Jesmond – owned by the Costin family of Nahant for more than 40 years – will remain a family business, albeit a family business managed by two families.”There are four of us ? two families,” Tariq explained Monday. “We were looking into the health care business and all that, and (The Jesmond) seemed like a nice thing to get into, and we are family-oriented people too.”Tariq and her husband, Tariq Qureshi, join another couple, Amir Khan and Ayla Lari in the business. Tariq said it is the first nursing facility owned by the team. She said her associates “look forward to many more.”Wellesley Healthcare Properties, LLC, purchased the property for $3,540,000 from the Jesmond Nursing Home Corporation, according to documents dated June 28 and filed in the Southern Essex District Registry of Deeds. The 1.038-acre property was assessed at $1,946,500 in 2012, according to town property records.Property records date the building to 1963, and The Jesmond Administrator Michele Desmarais said it has operated as a nursing facility since around that time. Fifty-seven patients reside at the facility, which Desmarais said focuses on short-term rehabilitation, long-term respite and hospice care. Both Desmarais and Tariq said they expect no major changes for the facility at the moment. The new owners plan to be at the site daily, and Tariq said she and her husband are looking to move from Wellesley to Nahant “in the near future.””We’re really excited about this,” Tariq said. “It’s a huge venture for us, and we’re looking forward to it.”Cyrus Moulton can be reached at [email protected].
