LIMERICK, Maine – A Lynn man is facing felony drug charges in Maine after drug agents confiscated 183 marijuana plants and a loaded shotgun on his property in a rural town in southwestern Maine.Jay Dandreo, 50, is expected to appear in court in York County today to be formally charged with aggravated cultivation of marijuana. He is being held on $5,000 bail, according to Pete Mador, the supervisory special agent with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.Drug agents searched Dandreo’s property in Limerick, Maine, Aug. 23, where they found plants ranging from 3 to 6 feet tall, a loaded shotgun and several unloaded firearms, which officials believed Dandreo meant to use to protect the drugs, Mador said.Agents estimate the drugs’ street value at $275,000.Dandreo turned himself into police Wednesday after running into the woods during the drug agents’ search. He has no criminal record in Lynn, according to a records search in Lynn District Court.Mador said the number of plants seized are sizeable enough to warrant felony charges but not anything out of the ordinary for Maine drug agents. He said September is a busy time of the year for the agency as marijuana growers cultivate their blooming crop before the first frost.”This time of year is big,” he said.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected].
