Lynn Tech breaks through, defeats Marblehead

September 12, 2012 by Rich Tenorio

Solving the Marblehead defense in the 20th minute, the Lynn Tech boys soccer team picked up momentum from there and defeated the Magicians 6-1 at Piper Field in Marblehead on Tuesday.Click here for a photo gallery.”It started out pretty even,” Tigers coach Fred Gallo said. “A lot of back and forth.”Then, 20 minutes into the game, Emerson Imul scored the first of his two goals for the Tigers.”As soon as we settled the ball down, we started passing it,” Gallo said. “We took control. That was the key right there.”The coach described Imul’s first goal as “pretty much three short passes, a cross in front of the net, and he nailed it in. It was kind of textbook.”Teammate Belizario Lopez supplied Imul with the cross pass for the assist.”That was happening all day,” Gallo said. “Kids weren’t being selfish.”Tech went into halftime up 4-0 thanks to Imul’s two goals and two more from Francisco Franco, who also assisted on Imul’s second goal. Franco would record the hat trick in the second half with Josue Amaya scoring the final Tigers tally.”We just did all the right things ? backwards passing, getting the ball all the way across the field,” Gallo said.Goalie Jose Alas made six saves and did not allow a score until about three minutes left, off a free kick.”My defense played extremely well. My goalie played extremely well,” said Gallo, who also singled out sweeper Douglas Sermeno (“very solid game”) and outside defender Aaron Rodriguez, a freshman, whom the coach dropped back from midfield (“doing very well on defense”).Tech has three games this week and the action continues with a home matchup against Chelsea on Thursday at 7 p.m.”They’re our toughest league competition, usually,” Gallo said. “It should be a very good game.”Rich Tenorio can be reached at [email protected].
