SAUGUS – Saugus Assistant Police Chief Leonard Campanello signed a three-year contract with the city of Gloucester to become police chief.The contract will pay Campanello $118,700 and lists Sept. 30 as the start, pending City Council approval later this month.?I?m looking forward to the next step in the process, which is the confirmation process with the City Council which should take place in the next couple of weeks,” said Campanello.Campanello started with the Saugus Police Department in 1990. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 and named assistant chief in 2009.
