Roundup: Tech runners race past PMA for first win

The Lynn Tech boys cross country team put one in the win column with a 24-32 victory over Presentation of Mary Academy in Methuen. The Tigers lost to Greater Lowell, 16-49.Freshman Dalvin Howars finished first against Methuen with a time of 20:37 on the 2.9-mile course. Tech notched six personal best times with the other top finishes coming from Ryan Johnston, third (23:45); Marco Cuellar, fourth (23:52) and Justin Espaillat, fifth (24:55) and Zack Zimiroski and Mike Freeman, 11th and 12th respectively.GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYPMA 15, Tech 50Gr. Lowell 15, Tech 50At Methuen, the Tigers had strong performances from Carmen Pascal, who took 10th (35:10) and Estrella Matos, 11th (35:58).GOLFSalem 38 1/2, Classical 33 1/2At Gannon Golf Course, the Rams (1-4) came out on the short end of a close match. Classical had wins from Brett Erelli, 5-4, at No. 2; Mark Brazell, 6-3, at No. 3; Mac St. Ives, 5-4, at No. 5 and Andre Gaudet, 5 1/2-3 1/2 at No. 7. Eric Brazell shot a 38 in the one spot, but his opponent fired a 36.Marblehead 51 1/2, Gloucester 20 1/2At Bass Rocks, the Magicians (5-0-1) had strong rounds from Connor Green, who shot a 38 at No. 2, and Trevor Jones at No. 3, who shot a 39.St. Mary’s 132, Williams 128At Braintree Municipal Golf Course, the Spartans trio of Shawn MacBurnie, Chris Price and Brendan O’Neill led the way. MacBurnie recorded 25 points, while Price and O’Neill recorded 24 points each. St. Mary’s remains perfect at 3-0.St. John’s 230, Central Catholic 244At Kernwood CC, Josh Wingardner led the way for the Eagles (35, even par). Swampscott’s own Steven Dilisio shot a 36 and Max Burt shot a 37 for St. John’s. The scores were 23-25, 25-20, 10-25, 25-21 and 15-12. Senior captain Abby Norwood had 16 assists and seven kills.
