DANVERS – Whil e there were plenty of scoring standout performances and good plays, sometimes a game just leaves you speechless. In its home opener, the Danvers football team defeated Peabody, 61-12, at Dr. Deering Stadium. That?s 61-12.?We told our team that we wanted to start fast and finish strong, and I think we did that,” said Danvers coach Sean Rogers. “This team has come out slow in the past, but we did not do that tonight.”?This is a game of heart and emotion and we did not have any of that tonight,” Peabody coach Scott Wlasuk said. “Danvers has a good team, they have great, aggressive backs, and run the ball hard. We needed to come out with emotion, but our guys were not pumped up.”After the dust had settled, the Danvers (2-0) rushing attack had compiled a total of 349 yards on the ground. The Falcons had eight different players record a rush, but Anthony Garron led the group with four carries, 124 yards, and two touchdowns.Garron?s scores came on romps of 53 and 61 yards that bookended halftime.Alex Grant finished with 59 yards and a touchdown on three carries while Sam Anderson finished the night with 65 yards on just two carries.By the middle of the second quarter, Danvers already led 14-0 after Grant?s touchdown, and a Peabody blocked punt was recovered in the end zone by Danvers? Andy Curtin. The Falcons capped their longest drive of the night when quarterback Ryan Chasse ran a bootleg to his left and connected with Jake Cawlina in the flat. Cawlina made two tacklers miss, and then received a great block by Alex Dalles that helped complete the 28-yard touchdown. After quick three-and-out by Peabody, Davners extended its lead to 28-8 when Chasse found Cawlina again for 17 yards out of the same play, this time going to the right. In the second half, Danvers kept the ball on the ground and was able to come up with two additional touchdowns by Richie Martino and one score from Chris Behen. With Danvers leading 54-0, Peabody quarterback Cody Wlasuk managed to put together two big plays. Twice, he found Michael Raymond streaking downt he sidelines for scores of 58 and 26 yards.?I take responsibility for our team,” said the dejected Wlasuk after the game. “I am not going to blame my players or my coaches. It is my job as a coach to get this team prepared and motivate and I ddi not do this.”?We had an awful practice Thursday.?I kicked the tam off the field because they were awful,” Rogers said. “But I our seniors, not just our captains, but all of our seniors, were not happy with the practice. They brought the team back out onto the field to finish the practice.?That is the leadership they demonstrated yesterday,” Rogers said.
