LYNN – Police charged a local man with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed another man multiple times in a fight at a Clarendon Avenue home early Saturday morning.Shawn Doherty, 35, of 75 Edgemere St., was arrested and charged with assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon at 12:57 a.m. Saturday.Police responded at 12:22 a.m. Saturday to a call of a disturbance at 29 Clarendon Ave., according to Lynn Police Lt. Chris Kelly on Saturday. Officers found a 35-year-old man with multiple stab wounds from a knife, Kelly said.Emergency crews transported the victim to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he was treated for potentially life-threatening injuries and then stabilized, Kelly said.Meanwhile, police investigating the incident found Doherty on a nearby street less than 40 minutes later.”They found him walking down the street,” Kelly said.Kelly said the victim’s identity was not being released. Police believe the suspect knew the victim and the stabbing was not a random act of violence, but officers are still investigating how the two men knew each other.Police said they believed the victim remained hospitalized Sunday night and had no further information. Police said Doherty was held in the Essex County House of Correction over the weekend and is scheduled to be arraigned in Lynn District Court Monday.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected].
