LYNN – Lynn Police are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred early Friday morning after Massachusetts State Police found the victim duct-taped and in the trunk of an abandoned car in Somerville.Lynn Police Lt. Christopher Kelly said the victim was stopped at a red light at Walnut and Myrtle streets at around 3 a.m. Friday when an “unidentified male” approached the car, held a gun to the driver’s head and ordered him into the back seat and then into the trunk.”(The suspect) put him in the trunk and duct-taped him,” said Kelly. “He began to drive the victim’s car with him in the trunk and at one point he pulled over, opened the trunk, took out a pocket knife and made slashes at the victim’s throat, then shut the trunk and proceeded to drive off.”Kelly said the victim was able to dial 911 on his cell phone, which he said was in a bag in the trunk with him, and State Police were able to trace the call to the car, which at that point had been abandoned.Kelly said State Police found the victim at around 4:30 a.m.”We got a call from State Police that they had a car over in Somerville that was involved in a carjacking that originated in Lynn,” Kelly said. “We sent our officers over to Somerville to meet with the State Police. The victim of the carjacking was found inside the trunk of the car with duct tape over his hands and wrists and his ankles.”The victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with “minor injuries” and released, according to Kelly. No arrests have been made, Kelly said.Kelly said the victim stated he did not know the suspect, but was able to provide a description.Kelly said the suspect is a white male, about 6-feet tall, 180 pounds, with a skinny build, light brown hair, a scruffy beard, a blue hooded sweatshirt pulled tight around his head and possibly in his mid-to-late 30s.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
