REVERE – The mayor of Revere says the city wants to buy the shuttered Wonderland dog racing track and convert it into a new home for the New England Revolution soccer team.Mayor Dan Rizzo says the acquisition would be made with the city’s mitigation payments from Suffolk Downs, which wants to build a $1 billion casino at the horse track.Suffolk Downs straddles Boston and Revere.The partnership that owns Suffolk Downs also controls Wonderland, a 34-acre parcel entirely in Revere and assessed at $10.8 million.Revolution president Brian Bilello tells The Boston Globe the team has been talking with Rizzo about building at Wonderland, but calls talks “preliminary.” The team now plays at Gillette Stadium.Suffolk Downs is the only applicant to date for the sole casino resort license in greater Boston.
