The Bridgewater-Raynham football team can be excused for thinking it got steamrolled by a one-man show in a 20-7 loss to St. John’s Prep Saturday afternoon. Sure, St. John’s senior Alex Moore accounted for all three TDs, forced a fumble and intercepted a pass. But he had plenty of assistance as the Eagles (4-1) completed a rugged three-game road trip.Senior quarterback Jack Sharrio got the passing game going early and finished 7-of-11 for 103 yards and a score while senior running back Johnathan Thomas complemented Moore with 13 carries for 110 yards. Those performances diverted BR’s defensive attention enough for Moore to rack up 232 yards from scrimmage and three TDs on just nine touches.”Jack had a nice game throwing the ball and getting people out of the box. We need to do that if we’re going to run effectively. Alex made a number of big plays when they were overplaying Johnathan. I don’t think our balance is any different than any other year. It’s just this year we’re a more mature team and we’re taking advantage of opportunities,” said coach Jim O’Leary. It helped that The Prep’s advance scouting preparation yielded offensive wrinkles designed specifically for the game that went for home runs – the first Sharrio’s 35-yard scoring strike to Moore on a seam pass in the first quarter and the second Moore’s 62-yard TD dash out of the Wildcat set in the fourth quarter that made it 20-7. Moore also raced 89 yards for the go-ahead score in the third quarter after the host Trojans (3-2) had tied it on Stephen Gallagher’s three-yard run.”Defensively I thought we held up very well against a team that is averaging more than 40 per game. We bent but we kept them out of the end zone. We had to make a few changes due to injuries but our depth is paying off. I thought we played great situational defense at the end. The kids in our dime package came in and executed well, which was good to see after they pretty much sat the last two games against running teams (Everett, Barnstable),” said O’Leary. The Eagles return home Saturday (1:30) to face St. John’s of Shrewsbury. A bye week then precedes their Catholic Conference opener on Saturday, Oct. 27 at home against Catholic Memorial (2).Masconomet 21, Gloucester 19At Peabody, the Tier 1 Chieftains (4-1) turned back the Tier 2 Fishermen (1-4) in CAL/NEC crossover action. Dylan Mann paced Masco with an 80-yard punt return for a first-quarter score and a 35-yard TD catch from Casey Schleer that gave Masco a 14-12 lead at the half. John Tivinis’ five-yard fumble return for a third-quarter TD proved to be the game-winner.Gloucester grabbed a 12-7 lead in the third quarter on quarterback Santo Parisi’s 30-yard scoring pass to Mark Horgan and his one-yard run on a keeper. Parisi added a one-yard scoring flip to Devin Hemeon in the fourth quarter to account for the final.BOYS SOCCERDanvers 3, Revere 1At Revere, the undefeated Falcons (8-0-0) got two goals from senior captain Brian Trefry and another from senior Drew Piazza. Senior captain Eric Martin and junior Zach Noring contributed assists. Keeper Drew Larsen broke up a 1-on-1 with the score 2-1 and later made two key stops to preserve the win.”I felt that we controlled the tempo and maintained possession for the majority of the match. Drew Piazza and Caio Silva dominated the middle of the field, Nick Lebel played great on defense and it was by far the best game for Brian Trefry,” said coach Mike Chase.St. John’s Prep 2, Andover 0At Andover, senior Nate Schmidt scored his sixth goal of the season for the game-winner and senior Ben Alpern posted his eighth shutout with four saves as the Eagles improved to 9-1-0. Junior Matt Chilton also scored while junior Anthony Vigliotta assisted on both goals. Center-mid Brooks Clark and defender Cory Lang anchored a stout defensive effort.”It’s not just our defenders – everyone is attacking the ball as soon as it turns over. Other teams have no time for possession and aren’t able to get into any rhythm,” said
