Volleyball: English wins its first league game

The English volleyball team came from behind Monday to defeat Saugus, 3-2.The scores were 27-25,23-25,25-27,25-23, 15-7 in a thrilling match.Megan Carter had the game-winning dig. Jillian Ballard came off the bench to serve well for English. Middle hitters Kerri Bryson and Lizabeth Hernandez played well.”This was our first league win,” said Lynn English head coach Laurie Wentzell. “The girls have been playing really well in the last week.Peabody 3, Salem 0At Peabody, the Tanners (11-1) beat Salem (26-24, 25-21, 25-18). Carolyn Stacchi (seven kills and four blocks), Kim Sousa (six kills), and Olivia Summit (5 kills) were the key contributors for Peabody.Classical 3, Revere 1At Classical, the Rams won by scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23 to raise their record to 5-6.Ivy Martin, Michelle Nwogu and Phaedra Mehu played well at the net each getting several blocks and kills. Bobbie Dee Regan and Cassie D’Augustino played all around sensational games in setting, digging and serving.Sarah Beatty scored nine service points in the third set. In the final set, Ivy Martin had three service points followed by Jaheirie Collazo who had two pressure service points to secure the victory for the Rams.The Rams play Beverly at home on Friday night hoping to even their record.Beverly 3, Swampscott 1At Beverly, the scores were 25-12, 26-28, 25-15 and 24-14. Anastasia Skeadas played an error-free game for the Big Blue as opposite hitter, with three killsAndover 3, Fenwick 0At Fenwick, the scores were 25-22, 25-15, and 25-19). Junior captain Kate Lipka had eight kills and senior captain Jess Ywuc had four blocks. Fenwick falls to 11-4 and is at home today (5) against St. Mary’s.
