Cross Country: English boys fall to Salem

The English boys cross country team fell to Salem, 25-31 in Salem. Alex Bonito led English with a time of 19:10. Tyler Comer finished in third with a time of 19:32. Ri Yan came in sixth at 20:40. Jonathan Nop had a time of 21:22 in seventh place. Malik Bazile crossed the finish line at 22:13.St. John’s 21, Xaverian 36At Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, the Eagles (4-0) won the Catholic Conference championship. Liam Dow finished first (15:36); Tim Loehner, second (15:37) and Tom O’Shea, their (15:51). Nick Fecteau (16:05) and Brendan Massey (16:16) finished sixth and ninth, respectively.”We’re glad to be back on top of the conference,” Prep coach John Boyle said. “It gives the kids a lot of confidence.”Xaverian won the title last year. Had The Prep lost, there would have been a three-way tie for first place.Beverly 15, Classical 50At Lynn Woods, Philip Chea turned in a strong performance for Classical.Saugus 19, Winthrop 45At Winthrop, the Sachems’ Evan Covell was the Sachems’ only top five finisher.Spellman 24, Fenwick 31Fenwick 21, Austin Prep 40At Austin Prep, Fenwick’s (4-3) Bryan Mendes finished third overall with a time of 16:59. Dan Deschenes had a fourth place in 17:25.Peabody 15, Revere 50At Peabody, the Patriots (3-4, 3-2 NEC) struggled against the Tanners, but they did have a strong outing form Krsti Nushi, who finished eighth (16:17) on the 2.78-mile course.Marblehead 25, Swampscott 36At Marblehead, the Magicians’ (5-2) top four were A.J. Ernst (16:44), Nate Fowler (17:02), Chris Rodts (17:04), and John Howard 17:33For Swampscott, 4-3,the top finishers were Peter Hale (who finished first at 16:15), Matt Mahoney (second, 16:20), Robert McLaughlin (18:23), Bennett Smith (18:28), Marco Scibelli (18:28).GIRLSSwampscott 21, Marblehead 40Top Finishers for Swampscott were Isbabella Kornitsky (second, 20:25), Alison Carr (fifth, 21:22), Miranda Nocera (10th, 21:48), Abby O’Connor (11th, 21:58), and Meg Mahoney (17th, 22:46).Janayna Randall led the Magicians (5-1) at a time of 19:49. Scoring for Revere were Nikki Nelson, Alanna Pasco, Caitlyn Carmello, Hayley Mangino, and Jaclynne Dion.Beverly 15, Classical 50At Lynn Woods, Armena Babic turned in a strong performance for the Rams.
