SWAMPSCOTT ?A Swampscott family with Syrian roots is collecting donations of clothes, living items and non-perishable foods for Syrian refugees in Turkey, many of whom are women and children suffering every day as their country’s conflict continues to displace millions. Boxes will be set up at the Swampscott Middle School, 207 Forest Ave., Big Blue Bargains, the thrift store located at the middle school, and at the Khatib family house. All items must be new and tagged?any used or untagged items will not be accepted. Food and formula must have an expiration past October 2013. All donations need to be complete by Oct. 26, as the Khatib family has secured a container shipping off from Maryland to deliver the items to the refugee camps as soon as possible.
