Girls Soccer: Dowd sets milestone, Peabody tops Classical

Hayley Dowd notched her 200th career point with two goals and two assists to lead the Peabody girls soccer team (15-1) over Classical, 4-0, at Manning Field on Monday. Dowd hit the milestone on the third goal for Peabody with an assist to Victoria Digiacomo (two goals). Dowd went over the mark with her second goal and the last goal for Peabody.Click here for a photo gallery.Joanne Stralicki in net and Carla Altema on defense both performed well for Classical (3-12-2).Tech 2, Presentation of Mary Academy 0At Lynn, Brenda Guevara put Tech (1-17) on the board with Victoria Mendoza getting the assist, and then it was Mendoza’s turn, scoring an unassisted goal. All the scoring took place in the second half.”Our girls played one of their best games,” Tech coach Jeremy McKeen said. “We had lots of shots and they gave it 1,000 percent, even when they were ahead. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”Roxy Diaz had a good game at forward and sweeper for the Tigers.Beverly 4, English 0At Lynn, Caitlin Harty provided Beverly (13-2) with all of its goals. Rose Terner had a solid game in the back.Freshman goalie Kaitlyn Nadeau had a strong effort for the Bulldogs (1-16-1). Nicolette Angelli, Karissa Burton, and Rachel Roy all played well defensively for English.Amesbury 2, Lynnfield 0At Amesbury, Amesbury scored 15 minutes into the game and again four minutes later. The Pioneers (5-7-4) had their opportunities in the second half, but nothing found the net. Sam Filipe played a strong game on defense for Lynnfield, which needs to win its final two games against Rockport and Ipswich to make the tournament.Danvers 2, Swampscott 1At Danvers, Delaney Zecha tallied the game-winning goal for the Falcons (12-2-2, 12-1-1). Kylie Plaza scored the other goal for Danvers. The Falcons led 1-0 at the half before Zecha gave Danvers the cushion it needed in the win.Swampscott (7-5-3) fell short in its comeback attempt. Erin Cassidy tallied the lone goal for the Big Blue with 20 minutes left in the contest.Saugus 1, Winthrop 0At Winthrop, Mikayla Pirella scored the lone goal with 10 minutes left in the game for the Sachems (7-7-2). Goalie Andrea Davis shut out the Vikings’ offense.Cardinal Spellman 3, Bishop Fenwick 0At Brockton, the Crusaders dropped to 8-5-4. Gina Vellucci and Ellen Fantozzi highlighted the solid defense for Fenwick.Revere 2, Salem 1At Revere, Paola Ortez had both of Revere’s (5-10-1) scores. Ortez’ second goal came with 10 seconds left in the game.
