The No. 11 seeded Fenwick field hockey team was able to hold off No. 6 seed Tewksbury on the road Thursday afternoon. The Crusaders defeated Tewksbury 2-1 at Tewksbury in a Division 2 North first round game.The Crusaders struck first in the first half, when Jen Jordan scored on a penalty stroke. Fenwick led 1-0 at the half. The Crusaders went up 2-0 early in the second half, when Erinn Johnson scored, assisted by Katie Hart. Fenwick goalie Bridgette Townsend had a strong performance (8 saves). Fenwick will next square off in the quarterfinals against No. 3 Swampscott Saturday (at Swampscott, 2:30).Wilmington 1, Marblehead 0At Wilmington, Marblehead fell short in a Division 2 North preliminary against Wilmington. Wilmington scored the lone goal of the game with six seconds remaining in the first half. It was a tale of two halves, according to Marblehead coach Linda Collins.”Wilmington dominated the first half and we dominated the second half. We had tremendous opportunities to score in the second half, but we could not capitalize on them,” Collins said.The Magician defense played great as a unit, keeping the deficit at one for the whole second half. Tyler Phillips and Mimi Goetz controlled the midfield for Marblehead. Maggie Forbes had a solid performance at forward for the Magicians. Goalie Cassidy Alla had a strong performance for Marblehead.
