Local runners impress at Coaches Invitational

Quite a few North Shore cross country programs had runners do well in the State Coaches Invitational at the Wrentham Developmental Center on Saturday.Runners competed in freshman, sophomore and junior-senior races.On the boys side, St. John’s Prep saw two freshmen earn medals: Colin Nye, who placed 19th in the freshman race with a 10:49; and classmate Luke Bugler, who finished 27th (10:57). Medals went to the top 50 in each race.In the junior-senior division, Eagles John Brennan and Matt Mahoney finished 67th and 68th, respectively, with each recording a time of 18:00.For Swampscott, Robert McLaughlin finished 12th in the sophomore race (18:03) and Sam Crimmins placed 25th in the junior-senior race (17:59).Beverly’s Alex Greco finished fourth in the sophomore race (16:43) while classmate Campbell Wood was ninth in 17:28. Freshman Colin Oliver was 49th in his race (11:10).Danvers freshman Zach Powers finished 26th (11:17), sophomore Kevin Hebert placed 22nd (18:29); and James Bailey placed 17th in the junior-senior race (17:44).Revere coach Mike Flynn praised the performance of four runners: sophomore Bounliang Chae and upperclassmen John Dello Russo, William Truong and Jay Mistri.GIRLSSwampscott’s Sarah Kelley finished 27th in the junior-senior race (20:55).Three Beverly runners earned medals in the junior-senior race: Nicole DeMars, 7th (19:55); Madison Shropshire, 17th (20:14) and Haley Albert, 42nd (21:17). Other Panther runners who won medals were sophomore Maeve Monahan (19th, 21:13) and Melissa Lubas (42nd, 22:31).Danvers sophomore Payton Johnson finished 23rd (22:29); and Ali Barker placed 34th (21:16) in the junior-senior race.Rich Tenorio can be reached at [email protected].
