SAUGUS – Saugus author Ogor Winnie Okoye stopped by the Saugus Library last week to speak about her new book, “Awaken and Unleash Your Victor: Uncover the Path to Your Magnificent Destiny,” while giving off some positive energy.?Be careful what you do to people,” Okoye told those in attendance. “Be careful what you send out through the power of your thoughts. Because they?re not just thoughts. They are living, breathing energy that you send out there and they will be returned to you with exact precision. Sometimes doubled or tripled.”About a dozen people listen to Okoye speak as coffee and donuts were provided.Okoye?s spoke about fear, courage, positive energy and the importance of being happy, while promoting her book, which she said took her about a year to write.?Always try to be happy in spite of your situation for your sake and for the sake of the people around you,” she said. “If you are not happy, it?s almost impossible to succeed at anything. Happiness is such a fertile ground for success. Think of all the tasks you do when you?re happy and all the tasks you do when depressed. It?s like day and night.”Okoye, who has a law degree from the University of Nigeria and a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School, said she “writes a lot,” whether it be on her blog or on Facebook. Okoye also just recently finished her second book.?I write every day,” said Okoye. “I don?t ever want to lose connection. I know when I lose connection I start stressing ? when you start stressing you start empowering everything you don?t want for your life and it quadruples.”Okoye?s book focuses on her own life experiences, including a miscarriage and a struggling marriage, and uses them as examples of how people can succeed and overcome their fears. Okoye described fear as something people create on their own as they get older.?Something crazy happens to us when we become adults,” said Okoye, a Lynn attorney. “As kids we?re like fearless and intrepid and happy. Then when we turn into adults ? we sort of shrink and get fearful. There are tips to take charge of your fear. There are a lot of us who want better for our lives, but we don?t have the courage to step up. Fear is a creation of a mind that is unwilling to take charge. Fear is figment of your imagination.”But because fear is a person?s own creation, Okoye said it can easily be overcome.?The funny thing about fear, the more it sees you?re falling for it, the more it grows into this gigantic monster and turns around and eats you up,” said Okoye. “But because you created it, you can extinguish it in a minute.”Okoye also urged people to take charge of their own lives and to stop blaming others for their problems.?If we fix ourselves, every other thing is fixed,” said Okoye. “But the journey has to start with us. No one would ever desire success for you more than you. No one wants it as bad as you do. So lets quit this habit of blaming people. Get off your butt and do it for yourself. It?s your life and we have such a short amount of time here.”More information on Okoye can be found at ogorwinnieokoye.com.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
