SALEM – The Lynn Jets scored four goals in just under eight minutes to beat Salem, 5-2, Sunday in the seventh annual Salem State jamboree.The Jets fell behind by two goals in the opening 51/2 minutes, but peppered Salem goalie Grant Thompson before they were finally able to come through in the second.Corey Wojewodzic potted the game-winning goal when he pounced on a loose puck from in front of the net.”We were able to put away couple of rebounds,” said Lynn head coach Joe Conlon. “That was the focus after the intermission.”Lynn is hoping to return to the postseason this year and they looked dominant by controlling play for the majority of the game. After the goals from Salem, Lynn’s Mark Brazell netted a goal on a two-on-one break. Senior captain Kyle Devin brought the puck past the blue line and passed it over to Brazell a the defender committed to Devin’s side. Brazell found the open net to cut the Lynn deficit to one score.Thompson made several sparkling saves including some breakaway chances by Lynn to keep the Witches ahead of the Jets. At the 13:45 mark, Ryan McDonald tipped in a rebound to Thompson’s left on the short side to even the score. A little over five minutes later was when Wojewodzic gave the Jets their first lead of the day.Dan Rustani and Devin added insurance goals for the Jets.”It was not the start we were looking for, but we turned it on and played better in the second period,” said Conlon. “There’s still a long way to go before these games start to count.”Marblehead 4, Saugus 1The Magicians are looking for a return trip to the tournament and appear ready for the season to begin.After the Magicians killed off an early penalty, freshman center Matt Koopman netted a goal on a rebound in the middle of the ice to give Marblehead a 1-0 advantage.”We always work hard on our defensive coverage,” said Marblehead head coach Bob Jackson. “Our kids are starting to pick things up and we are working on improvement.”Freshman Tim Kowlinowski handed the Magicians a 2-0 lead when he sent in a rebound on the short right side. Owen Picirello was credited with the assist.The game stayed this way for the rest of the opening period.Nearly four minutes into the second stanza, Saugus caught a break when Anthony Sierra collected the puck off a Steve Kay shot and sent it past Magicians goalie Harrison Young to give the Sachems some life.Marblehead scored just two minutes later when senior right wing Ty Bates popped in another second-effort goal.”They made a change in their goaltender and we put out the top line,” explained Jackson. “We had a chance for a rebound and Ty did what we needed him to do.”Senior Trip Franzese put the game away with a wrist shot from the left circle that provided the final score.Revere 6, Winthrop 1Marco Mazzarelli scored the only goal for the Patriots as coach Joe Ciccarello gets ready to coach his first regular-season game Wednesday at home against Somerville.”I’m still getting to know them, and they’re still getting to know me,” said Ciccarello, a veteran from his days at Dom Savio. “We’ve only known each othere two weeks. We’re not anywhere near where we need to be mentally and physically, but I’m patient and realize it’s going to be a long process.”Danvers 3, Swampscott 1Corey Carmody scored for the Big Blue.”Our goal was to play consistently and get good defensive Zone coverage,” said coach Gino Faia. “We gave up a couple of power play goals, and we had some breakdowns, but overall it wasn’t a setback. Danvers is seen to be among the top teams in the Northeastern Conference this year.”In other action, Peabody fell to Acton-Boxboro, 5-1.
