LYNN – Police, fire officials and the state bomb squad responded to a home in Lynn on Saturday morning to investigate a false report of a pipe bomb, according to State Police Trooper Spokesman Lt. Daniel Richard.Richard said Lynn Police received a call at about 10:50 a.m. for report of a suspicious device at a residence on the corner of Chestnut and Maple streets. Following protocol, Richard said Lynn Police called Massachusetts State Police’s explosive device unit, otherwise known as the bomb squad, to investigate. The bomb squad, the state fire marshal and Lynn Fire Department also rushed to the scene, Richard said.Responders quickly realized the “suspicious device” was a pipe laying on the ground. They cleared the scene in a little more than an hour, Richard said.Despite the false scare, Richard said police appreciated the call.”It was suspicious enough to call police,” he said.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected]
