LYNN – Saugus resident Jerry Concilio said he spotted what he thought was a loose kayak in the Rumney Marsh behind his home on Bristow Street Tuesday night. But after taking his own kayak out to see what it was, he said he realized it was the rescue capsule from the missing fishing boat the Foxy Lady II.?I said, ?OK, I?ll grab the kayak and go see what?s out there, and see if it?s somebody?s I know and I?ll return it to them,” said Concilio. “From my kayak I lifted it up and I saw the words, ?Foxy Lady? on it,” said Concilio. “I tried to tow it back but it was too heavy. It was just getting dark ? It was too heavy so I called the police and the Coast Guard.”A flatbed truck from McGarvey?s towing hauled the capsule, an orange Ovatek 4, four-person capsule, from the marsh at the end of Bristow Street in Saugus at around 6:15 p.m. The words “Foxy Lady II Stonington ME” could clearly be seen written on the back.According to the Ovatek website, the rescue capsules are “self-righting, unsinkable and fire resistant,” and come equipped with an adjustable, waterproof air ventilator. Crews can enter the water-tight capsule during an emergency or use it as a safe haven to wait out a storm. It also provides protection from hypothermia. The Foxy Lady II is the name of the scalloper the Coast Guard said was reported missing Monday at about 8 a.m. after one of the crew?s girlfriends said it failed to return from a trip Saturday night.Saugus Fire Capt. Thomas Nolan said the capsule came in with the tide, and noted there was no one in it or around it as firefighters donned their cold water suits to inspect it.Two missing crew members, a 50-year-old captain and a 25-year-old crewman, are still missing after the Coast Guard said the boat was last seen trolling about 10-15 miles off the coast of Provincetown.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
