School Roundup: Spartan track squad defeats Williams

The St. Mary’s track team evened its record at 1-1 with a 79-66 win over Archbishop Williams Tuesday at the Reggie Lewis Center.On the girls side, St. Mary’s had wins from Carol DiMaiti, 55 dash (7.72, qualified for states); Rachel Hanlon, 600 (1:59.85); Hannah McCormack, 55-meter hurdles (12.19); Paige Fielding, high jump (4-1) and Toni Vinciarelli, 300 (47.6).Victor Molle took second in the 55 for the boys (7.22) and Jake Cassidy qualified for the states with a second in the 300 (38.7). Josh Bertrand took first in the 600 (1:43); Anthony Muangi, the 1,000 (3:15) and Noah Camelo, the high jump (5-1). The 4 x 200 relay qualified for the states (1:42.7) with Molle, Cassidy, Bertrand and Justin O’Blenes.BOYS TRACKFenwick 56, Marian 17At the Reggie Lewis Center, the Crusaders (2-0) put together a very strong outing. Winning for Fenwick were Pat Corcoran, shot put (43-8); Eric Razney, 50 (7); Charlie Maistrellis, 300 (38.5); Bryan Mendes, 1,000 (2:50); Kevin Hannon, high jump (5-1); Nick Tambini, hurdles (9.35).GIRLS TRACKFenwick 73, Marian 13At the Reggie Lewis Center, Carolyn Claveau and Becky Mercuro were double winners for Fenwick. Claveau won in the high jump (4-3) and the shot put (26-1), while Mercuro won in the long jump (15-4.5) and the 50 (8.2).Also winning for the Crusaders (2-0) were Julia Pierce, 300 (48.2); Samantha Claveau, 1,000 (3:56); Hannah Smith, 600 (1:52); and Arianna Maida, mile (5:35).SWIMMINGMarblehead 105, Swampscott 72At the Jewish Community Center, the Magicians (1-0) had multiple wins from Ryan Alexander, 200 free (2:09.21) and 100 back (1:07.67); Harrison Rodts, 100 fly (58.54) and 500 free (5:23.79); and Charlie Seltzer, 50 free (24.09) and 100 breast (1:05.84). Robert Connors, Seltzer, Zach Michaels and Rodts combined to win the 200 free relay, 1:45.93.The Big Blue (0-2) had strong performances from Abby O’Connor, 100 backstroke; Meg Weisenburger, 100 fly and Meg Harrington, 100 breaststroke. Emily Guo took second in the 200 free (2:25.27) and Mark Kamen took second in the 200 medley (2:56.23).Danvers 98, Classical 82At Tech, Danvers extended its season record to 2-0 behind double-win efforts by three swimmers. Troy Ganley won in the 200 free (2:29.41) and the 500 free (6:49.68); Josh Mentzer, 200 IM (2:34.75), 100 fly (1:05.73); and Tom Giannino, 50 free (26.91), 100 free (1:01.63).Danvers also won the medley relay (2:57.53), with James Hawkins, Mitch Bussone, Mentzer, and Giannino; and in the 200 free relay (1:58.09) with Hawkins, Ryan Chasse, Mentzer, and Giannino.For Classical, Allysha Dunnigan won in the 100 back (1:16.50) and Kevin Chasse won in the 100 breast (1:28.47). Also for the Rams (1-2), Frankie Pearson, Anthony Ongi, Mac St. Ives, and Brian Nelson teamed up to win the 400 free relay (4:21.84).Salem 101, English 83At Salem, the Bulldogs dropped their first meet of the season despite a strong all-around effort. Winning in the loss for English (1-1) were Matt Bruno, 50 free (27.25); Mike Bruno, 500 free (5:51.50); Jesse Freeman, 100 back (1:11.22); Matt Demirs, diving (194.30); and the 200 free relay, Marina Broufas, Demirs, Brandie Holland, and Ma. Bruno (1:55.88).Peabody 90, Beverly 90At Beverly, the Tanners and the Panthers took to a fast pool and ended up in a tie. Maria Strakosha won in two events for Peabody, the 50 free and the 100 fly. Also winning for Peabody were Alex Strakosha, 200 IM; Christine Shea, 100 breast; and Pat Jwanoski, A. Strakosha, Zack Melville, and Alex Guay teamed up to win both the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay.WRESTLINGTriton 48, Marblehead/Swampscott 24At Byfield, senior captain Jake Powell won by pin at 126 pounds. Marblehead/Swampscott (1-5) took three other matches by forfeit.
