Saugus school board chairman shoots down rumors of theft by employee

December 22, 2012 by Matt Tempesta

SAUGUS – Saugus School Committee Chairman Wendy Reed said that, as far as she knows, rumors that a Saugus schools employee was stealing money aren’t true.”I have been receiving calls all day,” said Reed. “As of this time, I am not aware that anyone is suspended or in trouble. I don’t know; it’s just an awful thing ? If something happened there will be a public comment or announcement on it. I can’t even imagine why this is happening. I don’t get it.”Reed said if there were any allegations of criminal acts, there would be “some kind of action, an arrest or charge.””I don’t get why this is flying around the way it is,” said Reed. “It’s almost like an intentional attack.”Reed said school procedure would call for an internal investigation if there were any concerns unless there was a “blatant or definitive criminal act” in which the police would be notified.”If we had any proof, the police would be involved in it,” said Reed. “If something was going on it would be a personnel issue ? We don’t have any oversight over personnel. But I’m sure if the superintendent was concerned about any kind of malfeasance I think he would notify the committee.”School Committee member Arthur Grabowski and Town Manager Scott Crabtree declined to comment. Calls to Superintendent Richard Langlois were not returned.Saugus Assistant Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti would neither confirm nor deny the existence of a police investigation.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
