Hockey: Strangie, Danvers hockey storms past Saugus

Joe Strangie triggered a four-goal first-period outburst with two goals and finished with a hat trick and five points as Danvers stretched its season-opening winning streak to four games with an 8-1 rout of Saugus Saturday at Kasabuski Arena.The Falcons (2-0, 4-0), tied with Beverly atop the NEC North, have outscored their opponents to date, 20-5. Rob Buchanan added a goal and two assists and Mike Disciuollo had three helpers. The Falcons also got goals from Tyler Dustin, A.J. Cuto, Jay Calagno and Matt Flynn.Steve Kay had the lone goal for Saugus – the Sachems’ first of the season – an unassisted marker at 2:52 of the third period.”Danvers outplayed us from start to finish and we showed no effort. We are not talented enough not to work every night and that showed,” said Saugus coach Jeff Natalucci of his 0-2 club.St. Mary’s 0, Bridgewater-Raynham 0In Bridgewater, the Spartans (1-1-2) and Trojans (1-2-1) skated to a defensive stalemate at The Bridgewater Ice Arena. St. Mary’s held a slight 19-13 edge in shots. Sophomore goalie Nick Holt picked up the shutout.”Nick had a strong performance, including stopping a breakaway late in the game. I though as a team we played well in the defensive zone and gave a good team effort,” said coach Mark Lee.Winthrop 1, GloucesterAt Larsen Rink, both teams exited still in search of some offense and heir first win. Winthrop (0-0-3) held an 18-14 edge in shots and got its lone goal from Mark Ferullo, assisted by Pat Todisco and Chris Page. Gloucester is 0-1-1.St. Peter-Marian 3, Fenwick 0At McVann-O’Keefe Rink, the visiting Guardians jumped the hosts with three first-period goals, sending the Crusaders (1-4) to their fourth straight loss.
