SWAMPSCOTT – Drivers should be advised of the heavy traffic on Burrill Street in Swampscottt due to storm-related street blockages on Humphrey Street until 2 p.m.Humphrey Street in Swampscott from Red Rock Bistro to the Lynn line will be blocked off until 2 p.m. so crews can clear debris from the road washed up from the tide, said Department of Public Works Director Gino Cresta. Puritan Ave. will also be closed from the Humphrey Street intersection to Beverly Road to deal with the debris and flooding from the tides at Fisherman’s Beach.Cresta said the streets were blocked after the high tide around 10:25 a.m., when the strong tides were pulling off manhole covers and throwing rocks, sticks, seaweed and other pieces of debris in the road. Though the tides subsided by noon, Cresta said crews will need until 2 p.m. to clear the streets of debris.Cresta said besides the tide floods, there are no other street blockages due to flooding in Swampscott.?I thought we would have it good with the snow people have been getting,” he said. “Other than the tide, we made out real good.”Cresta was scheduled to have the day off, but came in to work deal with the flooding. “That’s the job,” he said, laughing.Kait Taylor can be reached at [email protected]
