Peabody girls basketball coach Jane Heil was looking for her 500th career win at Everett Thursday night. The Tanners didn’t let Coach Heil wait very long, as Peabody dismantled Everett 45-28.Coach Heil was very humbled by the moment.”This is a great moment not just for myself, but for everyone involved with Peabody basketball. I have had a great staff by my side for many years, and so many great teams year in and year out. I am blessed to have so many great people by my side all of these years,” Heil said.It seemed like just about the whole town of Peabody was in attendance in Everett. As the final whistle blew, everyone in the crowd gave Coach Heil a standing ovation for the milestone. There was a banner made with the number 500 stitched on the top of it, which was given to Coach Heil. All of her players from her current team, everyone from her staff, and a lot of ex-players had signed the banner given to Coach Heil.”When I saw the banner, I was so overwhelmed. I am really thankful for being able to coach this many years with so many good teams. I could not believe how many people in the crowd (came) for this game. I am glad this is over, though, so my team can really focus on the task at hand,” Heil said.As for the game, Peabody sprinted to a 31-13 lead at the half. Olivia Summit led the way for the Tanners (12 points). Coach Heil is very optimistic about her team’s potential.”I feel very good about my team. These girls have the capability of doing something really special this year,” she said.Peabody is 4-0.
