The Lynnfield wrestling team stood alone at the top of the Pentucket Holiday Tournament Thursday afternoon.There were 18 teams who participated in the tournament, and Lynnfield scored 151 points total, which was nine points better than the second-place team. The Pioneers had five players place, with three champions. The Lynnfield champions were: Eric Kerr (113); Tom Arseneault (220) and Andrew Kibarian (285). Alex Pascucci finished second (145) and Josh Intorcio finished third (160). Lynnfield coach Craig Stone was excited with his team’s performance.”We finished second in this tournament last year. We had 8 seniors graduate off the squad last year, and for these kids to step up and do as well as they did speaks volumes about our team,” Stone said.Swampscott/Marblehead finished in 14th place. Senior co-captain Jake Powell finished second at 126 (Swampscott). Leading the way for Swampscott were Corey Carmody (2 goals, 1 assist) and Trevor Massey (2 goals, 1 assist). Swampscott is now 3-1.The Big Blue advance to the tourney final today (8) against East Boston.Peabody 6, Newton North 1At Peabody, the Tanners, who were shut out in their first two games, made up for the lost time. Tanners player Derek Demild recorded his first hat trick of the season and added one assist. Mike Vadala had a strong game (1 goal, 2 assists) and Matt McIsaac had no problem sharing the puck (3 assists) for Peabody. Peabody is now 1-1-1.Christie Serino Christmas ClassicAustin Prep 5, St. Mary’s 3At Malden, the Spartans found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first period. St. Mary’s fought back hard in the second period, and tied the game 3-3. Austin Prep was able to make a few more plays in the final period, which proved to be the difference. St. Mary’s coach Mark Lee was very pleased with his team.”I am proud of my boys’ effort today. We had key guys missing today, and a lot of guys stepped up against a good Austin Prep team. We battled to come back, which I was happy to see,” Lee said.Leading the way for St. Mary’s (1-2-2) was the line of Ryan Madden, Dan Donovan and Austin Franco.
