Boys hoop: Revere stands tall in Pope John Final

The Revere boys’ basketball team squared off against Lynnfield in the Pope John Tournament final Friday night. The Patriots domination of the second half was the difference, as Revere defeated Lynnfield 65-59.The Patriots found themselves down 30-25 at the half. Revere dominated Lynnfield in the third quarter. The Patriots out scored Lynnfield 24-11. The domination of the offensive boards was key factor to the Patriots success in the third quarter. Leading the way for Revere was tournament MVP Mike Ciambelli (14 points). Dom Boyce (5 points) and Gio Gomez (14 points) both made the all tourney team for the Patriots. Revere is now 4-2.Beverly Christmas Tournament FinalBeverly 58, Boston Latin 54At Beverly, the Panthers raced out to a 35-24 at the end of the first half. Boston Latin fought back and took a 52-51 lead with 2:30 left in the game. Beverly ended the final 2:30 on a 7-2 run to close out the game. Leading the way for the Panthers was tournament MVP Cam Rogers (15 points, 11 rebounds). Jon Berchoff was the leading scorer for Beverly (18 points, 6 Rebounds). Beverly is now 4-1.Gloucester Holiday TournamentManchester-Essex 77, Fenwick 51At Gloucester, the Crusaders had a strong team effort despite the result. Leading the way for Fenwick was junior Matt Costello (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Dom Luoni (14 points). Fenwick is now 1-3.Pope John TournamentSaugus 34, Pope John 33At Pope John, Shane Ripley, Ryan Henehan and Joe Bertrand had eight points apiece to lead the 4-2 Sachems.The Tigers led 25-10 at the break, but the defense-minded Sachems only allowed eight over the final 16 minutes.St. John’s 61, Reading 40At St. John’s, the Eagles (6-0) continued their hot start by handling the Rockets easily at The Prep’s gym.Drex Costello )14), Ben Judson (23) and Max Burt (9) led the way for the Eagles.
