SALEM — West Lynn resident Marie Gomez went into labor at around midnight on New Year’s Eve, presumably ideal timing for her baby to be born early in 2013.
Eighteen hours later, Kianna Jaida Gomez entered the world, the first baby from Lynn born in 2013 at North Shore Medical Center.
“Somebody said it was good luck,” Marie Gomez’ niece Carline Gomez said.
Kianna Jaida Gomez was born at 6:19 p.m. Jan. 1, 2013, weighing 7-pounds 2-ounces and measuring 19.3 adorable inches long. Kianna will join her mother and her older sister Tanisha Gomez, 10, at home in West Lynn.
Carline Gomez translated as mother Marie said she was exhausted and happy after a long labor. And it was a different labor than she had gone through 10 years earlier.
Marie Gomez contrasted the two births. “For the first one, I didn’t feel any pain.”
But the pain seemed secondary as Tanisha and other relatives came in to meet the newest addition to the family, and Marie smiled quietly.
“I’ll have somebody to play with,” said Tanisha when asked what made her most excited about having a new sister. “Well, I love babies,” she explained. “I hope she’s going to be like me!”
Marie Gomez said that she had hoped that – in timing – Kianna would have been a little more like her.
“Her birthday is on Dec. 22nd so she wanted to have the baby at that time,” Carline translated.
But whether arriving on a birthday, Christmas or New Year’s Day, the family said they all agreed that Kianna was a wonderful gift.
