BOSTON (AP) — Members of the Massachusetts Legislature have been sworn-in for the start of what promises to be a busy two-year session on Beacon Hill.
Gov. Deval Patrick on Wednesday delivered the oath first to state senators and later to House members
Sen. Therese Murray, a Plymouth Democrat, was unanimously re-elected as Senate president, a post she has held since 2007.
House Democrats voted unanimously to have Rep. Robert DeLeo of Winthrop continue as speaker for two more years.
Democrats outnumber Republicans by a better than 4-1 margin in the House and hold 36 of the 40 seats in the Senate.
Rep. Brad Jones of North Reading was re-elected as House Republican leader in a separate GOP caucus. Sen. Bruce Tarr of Gloucester will remain as the Senate minority leader.
