The Lynn Jets hockey team found itself in a battle against Marblehead at home. The Magicians were able to fend off the feisty Jets 3-0 Wednesday night.

“My boys played a very hard game today,” Jets coach Joe Conlon said. “Marblehead is a very good team that we have to give credit. They are very tough, and do a lot of different things well. We have to take this game as a learning experience, and become a better team from it.”

The Jets gave up a quick goal in the first period to give Marblehead a 1-0 lead. In the final minute of the third period, Marblehead scored two goals to put the game away. Leading the way for Lynn was Mike Gately, who had a monster performance in net (40 saves). Lynn is now 3-2.

Braintree 3, St. Mary’s 1

At Randolph, St. Mary’s lost its starting goalie, Nick Holt, midway through the second period from an injury he suffered during the game. Holt was taken out by ambulance, and backup Connor Jennings came in and did a solid job. St. Mary’s is now 1-4-2.

Danvers 3, Peabody 1

At Salem State, the Falcons (5-1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back in the second annual Mike Clifford Memorial game. Peabody had strong performances on the defensive side of the puck from sophomore Cam Smullen and junior Giuseppe Zarro.

“We played a pretty competitive game today. My boys could have easily packed it in late in the game, but they played hard until the final whistle,” Peabody coach Mark Leonard said.

Northeast 5, Revere 2

At Malden, Northeast scored four goals in the first period and wrapped up the scoring with an empty-netter in the third.

“We were on our heels,” Revere coach Joe Ciccarello said. “We didn’t do much (in the first period). We stood around and watched them take the play to us.”

Revere’s Joe Ristino scored in the first period to put a dent in Northeast’s lead. Mike Martorelli cut the lead to 4-2 five minutes into the third period, but the Patriots (0-4-1) couldn’t quite turn the corner.

St. John’s 6, Framingham 1

At Wilmington, St. John’s found itself tied 1-1 with one minute remaining in the second period. St. John’s scored two goals in the final minute of the second period to take a comfortable 3-1 lead into the third. Leading the way for St. John’s was Tyler Bird (2 goals). St. John’s is now 4-1.

Beverly 1, Winthrop 0

At Salem State, the Panthers’ Nick Albano scored the game-winner on a power play midway through the third period. Beverly dominated play, as the Panthers outshot the Vikings 25-11. Beverly remains undefeated at 6-0.

Masco 5, Lynnfield 3

At Haverhill, the Pioneers (0-5-1) saw one slip away in the final period. Lynnfield led 3-1 heading into the third, but Masco cut the deficit to 3-2 a little over a minute in and then tied the game three minutes later. The winning goal came with about six minutes left, with an empty netter making it a 5-3 final.

Lynnfield sophomore Cam Rondeau put the Pioneers on the board. Teammate Quinten Hurley scored on a power play and again on a 2-on-1 to give Lynnfield the 3-1 lead.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Chelmsford 8, Marblehead 4

At Chelmsford, the Magicians came up short against a tough Chelmsford team. Goalie Aly Hopkins faced 27 shots in the loss. Marblehead’s Brittany Lydon had a pair of goals with Brittany Smith and Rachel McKay getting one each. McKay also had two assists and Smith, one assist.
