Boys Hoop: Spartans, Rams both win in OT

St. Mary’s received a buzzer-beating basket from Dennis Bailer to tie things at the end of regulation before holding on in overtime to defeat Cristo Rey 67-64 at home Friday.While the Bailer basket will be remembered as the play of the game, Spartans coach Kevin Moran pointed to the duo that made it possible for the clutch shot.”John Teehan and Kyle DiFillipo were the guys that got us there tonight,” explained Moran. “John had a big night offensively and Kyle scored some big baskets of his own.”St. Mary’s (3-4) got a game-high 16 points from Teehan while teammate Tom Deveau added 14 points. Bailer scored 11 points, none bigger than the game-tying shot that propelled the Spartans into overtime with all the momentum.Classical 65, Salem 61 (OT)At Salem, the Rams got the tying three-pointer from George Perez with 11 seconds left in regulation before outscoring the Witches 9-4 in overtime to get the win. Eraldo Custodio’s monster game (27 points, 16 rebounds) was enough for the Rams to outlast Marblehead’s dynamic duo of Marvin Baez and Chris Dunston, who combined for 35 points.English 65, Peabody 47At Peabody, the Bulldogs got their fourth win of the season behind a stellar 21-point performance from Fred Hogan. Eric Rosario and Anthony Silfa chipped in with 10 points apiece for English. The Tanners (1-5) got a team-leading 11 points from Yardley Taveras in the hard-fought loss.Chelsea 47, Tech 34At Tech, the Tigers fell to 1-6. The Tigers got a tremendous effort from Lynwood Moore, who finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, and five blocked shots in the loss.Saugus 80, S?scott 58At Saugus, Shane Ripley led the Sachems with 23 points, Joe Bertrand had 22 and Brandon Wladkowski had 15 for the Sachems (5-2).Danny Trentsch led the Big Blue (2-5) with 11 points.KIPP 52, Kennedy 51At Lynn, Pedro Morales (17) and Josh Puati (15) combined for 32 points, which was just enough for KIPP to outlast Kennedy, evening its record at 2-2. Danya Smith added seven points for the victors, who notched their first conference victory of the season.Lynnfield 67, Rockport 36At Rockport, the Pioneers cruised to an easy victory over the host Vikings. With the victory, Lynnfield improves its record to 5-2 on the season.Beverly 59, Revere 43At Revere, the Panthers used a game-high 24-point, 11 rebound performance from Cam Rogers to overwhelm the Patriots (4-3). Beverly (5-1) also got solid efforts from Jonangel Franco (10 points) and John Berchoff (8 points, 12 rebounds).Marblehead 46, Gloucester 45At Gloucester, Matt Millett led the way offensively for Marblehead (4-2), finishing with 15 points while teammate Cian Saunders scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Gloucester got 12 points from Austin Davis.Danvers 88, Winthrop 51At Danvers, the Falcons had five players score in double digits. Danny Connors (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Nick Bates (14 points, 15 rebounds) recorded double-doubles while Eric Martin finished with 12 points and seven assists. The Falcons also got 16 points from Nick McKenna and 12 points from Vinny Clifford.
