LYNN — Two Lynn brothers are free on bail after being charged in connection with a rash of car break-ins on Bulfinch Road in Lynn, according to court documents.
Joseph Taron Gathon President, 29, of 124 Central Ave., #34, was arrested and charged with nine counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of larceny under $250 by credit card, two counts of forgery and one count of larceny under $250 at 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
Carlique President, 25, of 589 Essex St., #305, was arrested and charged with nine counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and one count each of larceny of a credit card, forgery and larceny under $250 on Monday.
The brothers were arraigned in Lynn District Court on Thursday and released on $250 bail.
According to police records, officers responded to Bulfinch Road on the morning of Dec. 28 for a caller who stated his car was broken into and had several credit cards stolen. The caller also reported his card had been used at a Richdale Store and at the Lynnway Walmart that same morning.
Police found seven other cars on Bulfinch Road and Bulfinch Terrace had also been broken into.
The report states officers reviewed security footage at the Walmart and saw two males and a female pushing a baby in a cart. The report states the female used the card to buy three video games totaling $169 and signed the victim’s name to the receipt.
The three then continued to shop and the report states the three then went to a different register to try and buy $360 worth of merchandise, but the card was declined.
Store cameras showed the three suspects get into a white Infiniti in the parking lot and police were able to track the license plate to an Aleisha Lewis at 589 Essex St. #305.
Police also viewed surveillance footage at the Richdale Store on Essex Street and the report states officers observed the same suspect from Walmart make a purchase with the card. The report states the suspect got into the Infiniti and left the parking lot. Shortly after another man entered the store and used the same card.
The report states that police were able to identify the men as Joseph and Carlique President, and charged them “based on the time frames of the car breaks and when (the victim’s) card was used, and that Joseph and Carlique President used the card within minutes of each other.”
Police arrested Carlique President on Dec. 31 in the Shaw’s parking lot on State Street.
Police spotted Joseph President and Lewis walking on Essex Street on Jan. 1 and placed both under arrest.
Lewis was charged with larceny by credit card under $250, attempted larceny over $250 by credit card and receiving stolen property.
At the police station, the report states Joseph President told police he found the credit card and that his brother told him to use it at the Richdale Store. The report also states Joseph President denied breaking into any cars. And while he admitted to going to Walmart with his brother and Lewis, the report states Joseph President told police it was Lewis, not himself, who used the card at Walmart.
The brothers are due back in court on Jan. 31.
