LYNN – A Lynn man is facing assault charges in Salem after Salem Police say he threatened to kill a witness in a pending case and then traveled back to Lynn and barricaded himself in his home, causing a two-hour standoff with Lynn Police on Thursday night.Isaac Suggs, 40, of 110 Newhall St. was arraigned in Salem District Court on Friday on three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (a handgun), three counts of threat to commit a crime (murder) and one count of witness intimidation, according to Salem Police Detective Thomas Griffin.Griffin said a man traveled from Lynn to Salem on Thursday evening and approached three people known to him who were sitting on a porch at a home on Mason Street. The man allegedly brandished a handgun and threatened to kill at least one of the people who is a witness in a Dec. 19 case pending against Suggs in which Suggs is charged with malicious destruction of property, trespassing and a narcotics offense, Griffin said.”He said ‘I’m going to kill you,'” Griffin said.Griffin said the man then fled the area, and the three people he allegedly threatened called police. At 8:10 p.m., Salem Police sent out a notice to surrounding districts, particularly Lynn, to be on the lookout for the suspect.About an hour later, Lynn Police Lt. Christopher Kelly said Lynn Police found the man barricaded in his home at 110 Newhall St., a single-family home.Kelly said detectives’ attempts to reach the man failed, setting off a tense situation.”One of our detectives had the door abruptly closed by the suspect at that residence,” Kelly said.Kelly said Lynn Police formed a perimeter around the house, aware that the suspect could be armed. The standoff lasted about two hours.”We had talks with him through an open window,” Kelly said.By about 11 p.m., the suspect’s sister arrived on the scene, per his request, and he surrendered himself peacefully to police, Kelly said.Lynn Police transported him to Salem Police that night, Kelly said.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected].
