SAUGUS — Police said they are seeking a white male in his early 30s suspected in the alleged armed robbery of an elderly couple in the Continental Restaurant parking lot late Saturday night.
“We are still investigating and attempting to identify the individual,” Saugus Police Lt. Ronald Giorgetti said Sunday evening. “If anybody saw anything in the area of the Continental, made any observations of any suspicious activity, we ask them to contact the Saugus Police.”
Giorgetti said police received a call at 11:57 p.m. Saturday from the manager of Polcari’s Restaurant on Route 1. The manager reported an elderly couple had just stopped in the parking lot and told him they were robbed at knifepoint in the parking lot of the Continental Restaurant approximately 20 minutes earlier at 11:35 p.m.
Giorgetti described the suspect as a white male, approximately 30 years old, and wearing a hooded sweatshirt. He said the couple reported the suspect stated he had a firearm but the victims did not observe any gun. The suspect stole an unspecified amount of cash and immediately fled the area on foot, Giorgetti said.
He said police responded to the scene of the alleged robbery, but were unable to locate a suspect.
He said he did not know why the elderly couple did not immediately report the incident. He estimated that the scene of the robbery and the restaurant where the couple reported the incident are approximately a quarter of a mile apart.
He said no injuries were reported in the incident.
