PEABODY — Peabody Police are seeking a 21-year-old Lynn man they said is responsible for a shooting on Washington Street in Peabody this week, according to a department press release issued Sunday evening.

“He should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached,” police said. “If you see him or know of his whereabouts, please contact Peabody Police detectives at 978-538-6364.”

Aquiles Antonio Bernabe-Deleon, 21, of Lynn is wanted on a warrant issued by Peabody District Court. The charges are armed robbery; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a gun; unlawful possession of a firearm; unlawful possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, Deputy Chief Martin Cohan said in an e-mail Sunday.

Bernabe-Deleon is 5-feet-5 and weighs 129 pounds, according to Peabody Police.

Peabody Police responded to 197 Washington St., #3, on the report of possible gunshots Thursday at approximately 8:55 p.m., according to a press release from the department issued Friday. Police said officers reported finding one male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the thigh.

The victim was treated at the scene and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to the release. The release stated the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Peabody Police were assisted by investigators from the Office of District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett and the Lynn Police Department Gang unit in identifying Bernabe-Deleon as “the person responsible,” the release said.

Police asked that anybody with information on Bernabe-Deleon contact them at 978-538-6364. Reports may also be made anonymously using the MyPD Smartphone app or visiting www.peabodypolice.org.

Cohan said the victim has been released from the hospital.
