The St. Mary’s swim team finally got into the pool Sunday, but the Spartans dropped their first meet to Cardinal Spellman, 93-76.At the Lyn YMCA, St. Mary’s Annie Mailo won the 200-medley (2:53.72) while Eddie Traniello won the 100-freestyle (57.81) and was part of the winning 200-freestyle relay team who finished at 148.25. Sean Mahar, Steven Bourque, and Erik Whitcomb teamed with Traniello in the relay win.Austin Prep 87, Fenwick 83At Peabody, the host Crusaders (0-2) fell just short despite a bunch of solid performances. Lindsey Andrews, Pablo Jiminez, Bridgette Townsend, and Carson Christuk combined to win the 200-medley relay with a time of 2:04.07. Matthew O’Brien wpm the 50-freestyle (27.75) while Christuk won both the 200-IM and 100-butterfly at 2:08.28 and 58:41 respectively Christuk qualified for the D2 State Meet in the 100-butterfly while Townsend, who also qualified for the 100 backstroke.GIRLS BASKETBALLMarblehead 52, Everett 31At Everett, the visiting Magicians (2-3) had three players score in double digits as they cruised to a win over the Crimson Tide. Mia Bongiorno (15 points) and Emily Freedland (12 points) both played extremely well despite feeling under the weather. McKenna Barrett chipped in with 12 points as well.GYMNASTICSSalem 123.6, Gloucester 114.7At Salem, the host Witches secured their first victory of the season thanks in part to Maya Vural and Rebecca Desrocher who had terrific performances. Vural won the floor exercises while finishing third on the beam. Desrocher had a solid all-around day, winning on both the bars and on the vault.Danvers/North Reading 138.6, Peabody 108.15At Danvers, the host Falcons used a bunch of first place finished to defeat the Tanners. Roni Levine (Danvers) came in first three times, with victories in the all-around (35.6), vault (9.25), and on the beam (9.1). The Falcons Kailee LeBlanc finished second in the vault with a 9.05 while teammate Emily McPherson (Danvers0 finished in second on both the bars (8.4) and on the beam (8.9).TRACKAuerbach Freshman/Sophomore MeetAt the Lewis Center in Boston, in the small schools division, Marblehead’s girls turned in a strong performance Saturday, including a winning effort from the 4×400 relay team in a time of 4:22.04 that was more than six seconds better than the second-place team. Sophomore Carlyn McGrath placed ninth in the 300 meters (45.1) and sophomore Julia Lathrop was ninth in the shot put (27-5 1/2). Other area Top 10 placers included Saugus sophomore Mikayla Pirella, fourth in the shot put (29-6 1/2); Winthrop sophomore Carly O’Keefe, sixth in the 55 hurdles (9.74); and Saugus freshman Emily Monaco, 10th in the 600 (1:48.07).On the boys side, Marblehead freshman Andrew Ernst ran sixth in the two-mile in a time of 10:28.18.In the large school division, St. John’s Prep’s Josh Raposa was second in the mile with a 4:44. Fourteen Eagles took part.
